WSFA received this picture showing Montgomery Police, including Chief Finley, enjoying a game of basketball with neighborhood kids. The resident who took this picture said it was “an amazing gesture.
In the past 3 months, the city has implemented a program where the police walk the street of the neighborhoods. This is a great plan and I believe will go a long way in resolving some of the issues with police relations. Too often, the only time that the people see the police is when they are arresting someone or when there is a domestic incident. By establishing relationship with the residents of the communities that they are charged with policing, the youth of that community will no longer fear the police and their respect for the law will be improved.
Look at it this way. If all you do is drive a car and do not do any preventive maintenance, the car will stay in the shop. In the long run, improving relations between the police and the community will go a long way in preventing crime.
